"Agency": the capacity, condition, or state of acting or of exerting power....(every woman needs it). Blessed are those mothers who told us and encouraged us to be anything and everything that we wanted to be! One of my friends had three daughters. One daughter told her that she wanted to be "a sandwich maker" when she grew up , and another daughter announced that she wanted to "wash dogs" (because she adored and was good with dogs!) My friend encouraged her girls AND went back to work as a cardiac care nurse to put those girls through college. She even told them, "Your undergraduate degree is to teach you about the scope of the world, and your graduate degrees are to get you jobs." She never dilched their childhood dreams, she just offered them more and more. Today those girls work in medicine and education...(and make sandwiches and love dogs) and have agency in their lives...blessed are those mothers who modeled and insisted on agency for all women.
