Both in January and continuing into this month, we have been having friends and family visiting; and the encounters have been particularly rich, educational, and diverse. For me, heaven is being able to be my authentic self and share deeply with another human being...also having long history of being "known" by someone. So I woke up this morning thinking about "cross pollination" in the plant world, and what it has to teach us in our human world. This is what I found: "Cross-pollination enhances diversity, leading to offspring with varied genetic backgrounds. This diversity is CRUCIAL for the ADAPTABILITY of plant populations, allowing them to respond better to environmental changes and pressures." So I think that these still-lifes that I paint, where I throw lots of different objects (plants, fruit, pottery, etc) are my visual cross-pollinations...my inadvertent comments on the benefits of encounter and diversity in both the plant and animal world.
