This painting was done years ago. I actually did four versions because I was at my friend's house when her Swedish grandchildren were visiting. I was intrigued by their pale skin against the dark foliage. Being born and raised in Sweden , these children took ALL of their clothes off to frolic outside in warm weather...and especially if there was a chance of water play. Their grandmother had a very small fish pond on her brick patio and after a while the children were naturally drawn to it. The fish hid under rocks and the kids waded. I understood completely, because when I was young, my mother had a lovely older friend who she would take us to visit. And WITHIN her house proper, she had a lovely little fish pond. It was all very elegant and sedate, but my brother and I periodically shoved each other HOPING we would fall into the pond. It was so magnetic and fascinating to us that a person had a 'body of water' in her house. Now as an adult, I understand. We are naturally drawn to the elements: earth, air, water, and fire. And so...IF I had a pond, and IF my grandchildren were visiting, OF COURSE I would let them follow that magnetic pull toward it! This painting was done years ago.
