In this painting I was playing with inside and outside...namely that this could be an outside picnic, or an indoor winter repast (fresh citrus at this time of year!), whilst it's winter and dark outside. My husband says that December 23 is one of my favorite days, because it's the day AFTER the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. After that day, the days start lengthening again, and I'm all about the light. But I must say, winter has its compensations: my husband made the most beautiful winter salad tonight with freshly picked grapefruit and gorgeous dark red leaf lettuce...yum!
