This Renaissance processional painting, where I presume a pope is being carried, is a reminder to myself this holiday season to let others pitch in and carry some (or a LOT) of the load this season. No, I don't expect them to carry me through the streets!!! (I'm NOT crazy); but after carrying my children for years and years, physically and emotionally, even when they didn't NEED it, and MY over-involvement and worry about their every degree of happiness...this year...THIS YEAR (after three years of serious therapy, can't recommend it enough!) I STEPPED BACK. I was an observer,...I stopped moving and started quietly noticing. I relaxed....and surprise surprise, EVERYONE relaxed. I took myself off to bed (No procession, just an Irish good-by) while family was playing raucous games into the night. And you know how my family responded??? They said, "Good for you mom. You took care of yourself, so you could be rested and relaxed. We loved seeing it". Welp, there you go.
