Next time you buy yourself flowers, (or a swanlike pot of cyclamen), don't think of it as an indulgence; think of it as a spiritual practice of "Paying Homage" or "Expressing Gratitude" to the intrepid explorers who paid attention (when they found themselves in far flung places), to the unique flora that they encountered. For example, English botanist John Gerard wrote about the Mediterranean cyclamen bulb in 1597...and okay, he referred to it as "Sow Bread" (apparently thought it would make good pigs food), but noted it and brought the plant to other people's attention. The seasonal plants and flowers that we traditionally enjoy during the holidays (Poinsettias, Paper Whites/Narcissus papyraceus, Cyclamen) are not native, but originated in Mexico, Greece, Morocco, Algeria. So go out there today and "Pay Homage" to intrepid explorers, or "Express Gratitude" to observant explorers and get yourself some flowers!XO Next time you buy yourself flowers, (or a swanlike pot of cyclamen), don't think of it as an indulgence; think of it as a spiritual practice of "Paying Homage" or "Expressing Gratitude" to the intrepid explorers who paid attention (when they found themselves in far flung places), to the unique flora that they encountered.
