Media: oil on unstretched canvas (please note it is painted all the way to the edge).
Size: 22x15.75 in
Today's painting is all about strong sunlight and strong shadows. Here is my Saturday activity plan: First, stay in bed as long as possible, because you don't know if this is gonna be a "sunny day" or a "shadow filled day"...then I showered, shampooed (going ALL out) and then sunbathed (nearly nude but don't worry, no one had to witness it!) and sipped water. My primary care Doc said that I (and everyone else apparently) is really low on vitamin D because we've overdone the sunscreen thing. But my 14 yr old (seriously that's how old I thought he was till he mentioned a wife and kids????) Dermatologist says, "Before you leave your house, act like you are a cow, who is in danger of getting Brucellosis (watch Yellowstone, you'll get this reference) and dip/immerse yourself in a vat of sunscreen. Maybe just set up a sheep dip station by your front door". Ugh, could our doctors 'get it together' and agree on the stuff they tell us???..Anyway, I have watched some of Jonah Hill's amazing new Documentary "Stutz" and I 'get' that we are supposed to make friends with our 'shadow side'...but here's the thing, most of the time "I don't wanna"...it's SUCH bad news that we are ALWAYS gonna have that side...I spent years painting portraits that people told me looked 'sad'. And now that makes sense because it turns out that I am a natural, (no formal education required) 'ruminating melancholic', and can go to the 'shadow side' at warp speed...BUUUUT every day I do ALL THE THINGS to TRY to 'keep on the sunny side', (and frankly, I am periodically pissed that SOME people are just BORN with an inexplicably sunny personality, and ALL of the stuff going on in the world doesn't seem to affect them!!!????) And now, yay, it turns out that regular doses of SUNBATHING need to be added to my 'self care' regime...and then maybe, maybe I will have the psychological wherewithal to go on very short coffee dates with my 'shadow side'. P.S. If you are thinking, "Hey this lady gets a lotta her info from TV", you would be right. Today's painting is all about strong sunlight and strong shadows.
