After my last value and color discussion I thought I'd show two side by side (each 8" x 6") little bath paintings that I recently did, one very soft light, muted colors with very low contrast...it gives me the feeling that the bathwater and bath room is a comfortable temperature. The darker, higher contrast one makes me feel as if the figure is in a really cool old bathtub, but maybe the room and ambience is a little more spartan. To me, it is so interesting that value and color can convey so much. Full disclosure, I once bought an absolute wreck of a house, BUT it had an amazing, old, clawfoot tub upstairs in a room filled with natural light and beautiful old wood floors...there were so many good soaks and reading sessions in that tub, and the house all came together around it.
