This painting was a challenge. I have painted here several times before. I painted this from a photo. The foreground rock was full of contrast and colors with the rocks, snow, ice, cool shadows and warm sunlight. My Mackerel Sky painting was from the same night and as I had mentioned when I painted that looking away from the sun you see the softer, mauves, looking into the sun there is contrast and higher key colors.
