I painted this painting from a photograph I took during a day trip to Squirrel Island last summer. The island is a summer community only because there is no running water in the winter months. It is located a short ferry ride from Boothbay Harbor (the ferry also saves as the mail boat as well) so it makes for a great day trip. Be prepared to walk because there are no vehicles on the island. The summer cottages are beautiful, most of them having been built in the late 1800's early 1900's, many with large porches situated to take advantage of the expansive views of The Atlantic Ocean on the southern coast or of the Boothbay Peninsula on the other sides of the island. Hoping for another trip this coming summer.
