Just outside of Rockland, Maine, there is a small park with a beach. It's a beautiful place to set up for the day, or for an hour or two of enjoying the sun, sand and surf. The cove is fairly protected, so the place is filled with small children and their families. This painting started on that beach, with a finishing session back in the studio. I'm taking a plein air course to get up the courage to do more work outside. It's a whole new set of challenges to observe three dimensional scenes and then translating them into two dimensions. But the hardest part is trying to capture the light. It changes with each passing cloud, and with each passing 15 minutes or so. Fun to try, though!
