I worked on this little painting for a long time. At first I tried to push the color to a brighter yellow, playing with hue. But it kept looking wrong. Finally I decided to reflect the true tones of the building and it all fell into place. Sometimes it's good to play with color. And sometimes a painting just wants to be simple. The harbor was full of boats and activity the day I was there, but this small building seemed to be a quiet corner of peace. That's what drew my attention in the first place. Maybe that's why the more muted tones worked best. I worked on this little painting for a long time. At first I tried to push the color to a brighter yellow, playing with hue.
