It was a grey, rainy day when I painted this and I think subconsciously, I was looking for something to counteract the gloominess of the day. I ran across my photos of some beautiful, bright sunflowers that I’d placed near a sunny window. The flowers were spotlighted perfectly and I knew that this is exactly what I wanted to paint! These cheerful, yellow sunflowers are to me, the perfect antidote for a rainy day.
