As I painted the last of my “clouds in the country” series of paintings for a while, I was thinking about what I’m drawn to when I look at my reference photos. While I dearly love the canopy of tall trees in my backyard (except when we have tropical storms come through), I normally can only see small patches of sky. My recent paintings have been of Georgia farmland, which has been cleared of many of the taller trees, so I can see across a great expanse of beautiful sky and all these lovely green, fertile, fields.
