Media: Soft Pastels on UArt archival sanded paper
Size: 7x10 in
As a much younger artist I lived in a cabin on the flood plain of the Deschutes River. In summer, I enjoyed the cool air under the canopy of trees, and the warm stones along the river's edge. Now living nearby on Offut Lake, I walk near the river almost daily on the Chehalis Western Trail. The river is always moving and changing yet it emanates freshness and serenity. Here I've painted it in soft pastels with attention to value groups, and temperatures of light and shadow. I painted most of it in two days, but then touched it up over a week as I could see it in different light with fresh eyes. The 7 x 10 inch artwork is conservation framed in custom-accented wood, museum glass, and cotton mat. Photo number 2 is an approximation of the framing. It shows the pastel simply resting on top of the mat (not the finished framing) with its wooden frame. Cut cotton mat and museum glass were added after that photo. I'd prefer not to ship the artwork framed, so it's "on hold." Call Steve at 360-264-4301 (landline) to arrange purchase and direct pick-up at studio. You can watch a video on the making of this artwork (see link).
