On Hold
Something is always blooming in my home-studio gardens. I could be painting heather, violets, heliborus, and primroses now in winter. But I painted this crisp, golden flower from a summer photo instead. To me, it looks like a trumpet, upward facing as if announcing a jubilee year of restoration and freedom. The buds are like promises yet to come forth. I painted the lily wet into dry and the background wet into wet to allow the colors to move and blend freely. The background is a blur of sky and garden colors-- perhaps an atmosphere that is shifting or changing as dappled light breaks in. I painted completely to the deckled edges, allowing the option to float this artwork when framing. It is signed bottom right in a subtle color (visible in the second photo).
