Media: Fabric Painting dyed silk habotai
Size: 11x11 in
Each pear has a way of “standing” or leaning which gives it personality. This one looks heavy and shiny—like gold. I cannot remember the name of the species of my model, but it was some kind of Asian pear. This artwork is 100% silk habotai 8mm, dye-painted using resist and non-toxic, water-based dyes (Jacquard Red Label), and set by steam (no chemicals) for permanence. The dyes are a bit like watercolors, but on steroids. They continue to migrate through the silk material until they dry. I use clear and colored resists to create boundaries for the flowing dyes. To me, the resulting imagery resembles a monotype (printmaking) but with the subtle tones of watercolor. The silk itself adds a lustrous sheen to the artwork. So browns become bronze. Tans become as gold. 11h x 11w inches Sold Unframed Silk art looks lovely framed with a mat, under glass like any other two-dimensional art medium. Unlike my watercolors and oil paintings, my silk artworks can be hand washed or dry cleaned, and ironed on the “silk” setting. Silk artwork is approximately 11 x 11 inches with a rolled hem all round (see second photo). Artwork is signed at right bottom.
