Still is part of a series of paintings I've created in spring 2020. I've entitled the series Quiet Waters. The imagery is from Offut Lake where I grew up and now again live and work. I enjoy paddling on the lake, and I sometimes take pictures that inform my paintings. This looks like a warm day in early summer. Quiet Waters embodies selah, rest, and pause -- in soul-restoring places of peace - lakes, streams, rivers, and ocean. This virus season has challenged our contentment, our convenience, and sometimes our peace. My artist response to these inner and outer tensions is to paint places of peace - places of quiet waters. To me, the lake and stream imagery is soul-refreshing.
