Even as a kid, I always loved "tunnel trees," the kind that arch over the road or pathway. I love the dappled light, the shade, and the feeling of moving through or inside of the woodland. I walk this section of trail almost daily and it's always changing color, light, and texture. And the sound of rain on the maple leaves is a delightful applause.
This artwork is one painting in a series entitled “Turning.” Turning is about direction, situation, momentum, and pacing. Imagery is inspired by scenes along my daily walks at the nearby Chehalis Western Trail. Curving roads and illuminated pathways embody themes of Turning. This season of slow-down has quieted my own busy schedule. The quiet has revealed my soul condition, my path, and my pace. I'm receiving this season as a healthy "reset" of my tempo and choices of activities. Hopefully I'm numbering my days aright to gain a heart of wisdom. And so the theme of turning -- is about where I'll step and how quickly I step (or pause).
