Then and Now

From the time I was little, the only thing I ever wanted to be was an artist.  I watched and followed along with Jon Gnagy on Saturday morning television back when there were no DVRs, and you had to be ready and waiting with your sketchbook and charcoal when the program began. I still have my pastels and blenders from those wonderful kits and lessons.

I was in awe of the pencil drawings my Mom had done as a teenager and poured over the Dover book she gave me detailing how to set up a studio and be a 'real' artist. Summer mornings might find me in the field with my easel and oil paints trying to capture the landscape. Hot afternoons were spent at my corner desk painting while the other kids were outside playing.

Adulthood came along and brought adult responsibilities - marriage, raising a family and earning a living to name a few. So, for many years, I set my art aside. But retirement has offered me the opportunity to rekindle the love that never really died and pursue art with renewed joy and passion.

As an artist, I see color, textures, beauty and inspiration everywhere I look. But no place speaks to my heart like our little spot of heaven here in Iowa.

My style is defined by bold colors, captured light and intriguing details that draw you in to take a closer look.

Thank you for stopping by to view my art. It's my pleasure to share with you the vignettes that inspire me here in rural Iowa and beyond.
