Christine Peloquin has been doing art since she was 3 years old. Her artistic mission has always been to create emotional and spiritual work that both inspires and challenges the viewer. She has been continually innovative with her approach to visual language, using inventive and imaginative mixed-media techniques along with having a solid foundation in traditional figurative work and a love and passion for art history. Her art serves the people who crave personal stories of love, peace, wellness and spirituality more than just simple decoration. Her work is intense, yet completely accessible and approachable.

She is currently showing her work at Arts on Douglas Gallery in New Smyrna Beach and Bennett Galleries in Knoxville, TN.  She has also shown in numerous galleries around the country including Studio E Gallery in Palm Beach Gardens, Atelier Galleries in Asheville, NC and Charleston, SC, Matre Gallery, Atlanta, GA, Longstreth-Goldberg Gallery in Naples, Hanson Gallery, Knoxville, TN, Loretta Goodwin Gallery, Birmingham, AL, Blue Gallery, Kansas City, MO, Orlando Museum, FL, and Kristal Gallery, Sugarbush, VT. She has been teaching her mixed media techniques since 2009 and offer workshops at her studio in Sorrento, FL and across the US. She has been published in numerous books and magazines such as Somerset Studio, Studio Visit and American Art Collector. She has also self-published her first children’s book with her mixed media and watercolor paintings called, “If You Could Tell Time, What Would You Tell It?” You can see a complete resume here and a list of workshop venues here. 

Christine works in a variety of 2D mediums including acrylics, oils, mixed media, drawing and watercolor and refers to her style as Figurative Realism meets Disrupted Realism. Her work is figuratively literal with a multi-dimensional quality to the pieces. The subjects range from faces and figures of women and children to landscapes, nature scenes and abstracts. Most pieces begin with fabric and paper collage on wood panels consisting of antique and contemporary fabrics, handmade paper, and mono prints and 2D found objects. Over the collages, the drawings are done in charcoal, and the work is painted with acrylics and/or oils. The joy in this process is the instinctual choices of harmonizing what will be covered up and what will be revealed and creating a balance of traditional realism and contemporary aesthetic with the rendering.

She has George Sand’s quote, “The artist’s vocation is to send light into the human heart” on the front page of her web site because it truly defines how she sees art. She believes that artists are translators who have the power to take their surroundings and wisdom and transpose them into a visual experience that can be admired, shared, and loved by others. So, she shares and explore what she knows and loves, being female, a mother, her love of art, science and psychology, and her love of capturing a specific moment in time. She believes that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and so she attempts to mimic layers of personality, story, energy, and spirit with layers of drawing, painting, and collage. Her artistic goals are always technical growth and stylistic innovation.
