I grew up in the expansive landscapes of Wyoming and Colorado which fostered my love of the outdoors. My family fished for trout in the mountain streams, hunted for rocks (and found many fascinating fish fossils, jade, garnets, and topaz to name a few) and explored in an old blue Toyota Landcruiser down every back road we stumbled upon. My parents appreciated art and had a modest collection of original paintings, pottery, batiks and a bronze sculpture.
I moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to attend college and remained in the state for many years. Then, after a three year stint in Madison, Wisconsin, I moved back to my birthplace of New Orleans, Louisiana -- a colorful and visually rich 300-year-old city with much European flair historically influenced by French, Spanish, and Caribbean cultures
.
I love to travel, eat and cook inspired cuisine, snuggle with my two cornish rex cats, read about art as well as health, nutrition and fiction, visit a wide array of galleries and museums, and immerse myself in nature whether hiking, kayaking, or exploring new places. But the primary passion that feeds my soul is putting onto paper, canvas or wood that which inspires, intrigues, and motivates me and hopefully others -- whether in oil, watercolor, pencil or acrylic.
While I primarily paint in my home studio, I sometimes paint en plein aire. I love color, contrast, shapes and lines, but I am particulariy fond of light and the way it falls over a landscapes, an object, or a person's face, defining and explaining its contours and character. I am most grafeful to have my art in both private and public collections, and have created a number of commissioned works.
Thank you for visiting!
