I can't remember a time when I did not make art. I have always found joy in those moments when all track of time is lost and mind and hand move seemingly as one.
If life informs art, it was my years in nursing that honed my ability to read hidden stories in faces full of character and, consequently, fueled my desire to share these vignettes in paint. I move easily from pencil and watercolors, which lend themselves to realism, to pastel and oil, which showcase my love of impressionism. I believe drawing skills are critical for all media and years of working from live models have perfected my draftsmanship. Given an accurate rendering it is my creative choice of colors along with both light and shadow that allows my subject to reveal its message.
I call Melbourne, Florida home now and I am just a short distance to the ocean. My husband and I enjoyed sailing both short and long distances in our 42ft ketch, Tropic Bird II. Hours spent at anchor brought all kinds of images to life and a good set of watercolors got me safely thru solitute. When you travel with two dogs, oils are out of the question.
Bucks County Pa was where I got off to a good start with studies with Jim Schucker, an illustrator who retired to our small town from New York. I learned so much during this ideal time. When art grabs you early in life, the effects are lasting!
I take workshops as frequently as I can and am a member of the Portrait Society of America. Their annual sessions are breath-taking!
Currently I have been focusing my attention on developing smaller, dramatic, and affordable works that I will be promoting on this site only for direct purchase. Check back with me for new developments.
