“I paint to experience the beauty of nature more deeply,

hoping to create an exchange, a moment of give and take.”

I call myself an interpretative realist painter, painting the gesture of light - capturing the moment when light and shadow become shape, moving back and forth in the experience. Using palette knives and brushes, the process evokes dance, transformation and spirit. My favorite is a guilder’s Instacoll tool, which I use to scrap and draw into the paint resulting in works that are rich in color, energetic and joyful.

I am deeply inspired by the poetry of Hafiz, Rilke, and Mary Oliver. In a time when we are overwhelmed with visual imagery and digital experience, I want to focus on our humanity within the natural world. The mark is a specifically human gesture, meant to hold a place for what captures our attention.

An art historian, art collector, and former gallery director, I became a working studio artist in 2019. I am grateful for the artistic communities of Williamstown and Cape Cod, and my mentors Stanley Bielen and Pete Hocking.
