Painting to me is about being in the moment.
For forty years, I’ve been painting watercolor landscapes en plein air. By painting my view, outside for a few hours I become one with nature, the colors, and the light.
These painting experiences have not only resulted in meaningful paintings, but also surprise visits from ravens, weasels, passing icebergs, and a momma bear with her three clubs. Other surprises such as sudden rainstorms, strong winds, and whatever else mother nature whips up, keeps things interesting.
In addition to my landscape painting, in the summer of 2023, I committed to creating one small painting every day. The on-going daily commitment to this also speaks to being in the moment. In this series, I often focus on colors and how to make them glow, especially in my floral still life paintings and it has helped me become a better painter. I have made it to 527 days and counting.
I was an Artist in Residence at the Wiawaka Center for Women on Lake George, NY for seven years. In 2024, I was accepted into the Truro Center for the Arts residency program. I hope to be part of other programs like this.
I also have been part of numerous juried shows, as well as solo shows and have completed several commissions in watercolor or acrylic and am happily accepting more.
