Telling the Story in Glass
March 13 - 16, 2026 |
Phoenix, AZ
Think you can't draw? Want to learn a new medium?
This class is for you.

In this dynamic and empowering four-day workshop, acclaimed artist Kelly Crosser Alge will guide you through the process of using glass powders to draw richly expressive, two-dimensional imagery in kiln-formed glass. Blending elements of fine art and fine craft, this workshop redefines what it means to 'draw' - inviting you to explore line, contrast, gesture, emotion, and storytelling through the lens of glass.

You'll learn how to make and use simple tools, improvisational techniques, and some 'tricks of the trade' to create powerful visual compositions- no drawing experience required. Whether your inspiration is abstract or narrative, this class will help you develop the confidence and technical foundation to translate your ideas into glass.

In addition to sgraffito drawing, Kelly will cover a wide range of supporting techniques and materials, including: kilnformed cane and murrini, collaged part sheets, reactive glass effects, color strategies and volume control, custom tool making, firing schedules and finishing techniques.

By the end of the worksop, you'll not only walk away with new work, but also a deeper understanding of how to "see" as an artist, how to evoke emotion through material, and how to tell compelling visual stories with glass.

All materials included. Some fusing experience is helpful, but not required.
