I paint to express feelings and my subjects evoke a memory or emotion that transports the spirit. These feelings are represented through a sense of movement or energy by using intense colors and a combination of brushing onto wet and dry paper. Using all my senses, I add detail that I remember or imagine is part of the scene. I feel the warmth of the sun, smell the fragrance of the lavender, savor the sweet salty taste of the pancakes, and hear the drone of the bees. I paint from photographs or still life. Recent larger work has shifted from realism to more dreamlike meditation pieces and whimsical impressions.
I have painted in pastel since childhood and watercolor in more recent years, as a self-taught artist. My subjects are diverse and often represent places I've lived such as Alaska, Belgium, and the Pacific Northwest. Thank you for looking! Your interest and feedback is welcome.
I have also self-published a picture book of watercolors! "Let's Go For A Walk"
