Bob Blackmon

Retired from a career in higher education administration, Bob Blackmon lives and paints in Troy, New York. He is primarily a still life artist whose works are characterized by realism, rich colors, sharp contrasts of light and dark, and dark backgrounds-- the Baroque style. He strives to find and reveal beauty in life's ordinary things. Unless otherwise noted, all my paintings on this site are framed or on gallery wrapped canvas. Please comment on my work, as comments help me develop as an artist.

Blackmon's still life style is influenced by the work of the French artist, Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin and that of his first art instructor, Bob Tompkins.

Prior to his retirement in 2005, Blackmon held academic administrative positions at the University of Arkansas, the State University of New York, and Louisiana State University (where he received his PhD many years ago) and was a Scholar in Residence at the Pakistan Forest Institute in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Over the years Blackmon has shown his work in numerous juried and non-juried exhibitions and galleries in Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, Vermont, and Ireland.

He is a member of the Colonie Art League (NY), the Albany Artists Group (NY), Saratoga Arts, Southern Vermont Arts Center, the DeSoto Arts Council (LA), and is a founding director of the East Bank Art Alliance (NY). Blackmon is one of the artists in the Ardmore Gallery, Ardmore, County Waterford and in The Fado Gallery, County Kerry, Ireland. His works are in private collections across the United States and in several European and African countries.

Blackmon was recently juried into the organization, Oil Painters of America.
