Bob Blackmon

Retired from a career in higher education administration, Bob Blackmon lives and paints in Troy, New York. For some 50 years he painted primarily still life, characterized by realism, rich colors, sharp contrasts of light and dark, and dark backgrounds-- the Baroque style. He strives to find and reveal beauty in life's ordinary things. Recently he has begun doing landscapes. His still lifes are in oils; his landscapes mostly in acrylics. Unless otherwise noted, all paintings on this site are framed or on gallery wrapped canvas. Comments are welcomed, even encouraged.

Blackmon's still life style is influenced by the work of the French artist, Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin and that of his first art instructor, Bob Tompkins; his landscapes by the late, great artist, Bill Zaner.

Prior to his retirement in 2005, Blackmon held academic administrative positions at the University of Arkansas, the State University of New York, and Louisiana State University (where he received his PhD many years ago) and was a Scholar in Residence at the Pakistan Forest Institute in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Over the years Blackmon has shown his work in numerous juried and non-juried exhibitions and galleries in Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, Vermont, and Ireland.

He is a member of the Colonie Art League (NY), the Albany Artists Group (NY), Saratoga Arts, Southern Vermont Arts Center, the DeSoto Arts Council (LA), Oil Painters of America, and is a founding director of the East Bank Art Alliance (NY). Blackmon is one of the artists in the Fado Gallery, County Kerry, Ireland. His works are in private collections across the United States and in several European and African countries.
