As an independent and self-taught artist, I enjoy creating work that represents movement and light, especially the distortion of light and reflection. My unique style of painting is a result of being primarily self-taught in the fine arts. My favorite projects, done for my own fulfillment and professional development, are usually large-scale acrylics that focus on the brilliance and power of color. I am drawn to close-cropped themes with a modern, obvious edge. Most of my portfolio evokes this illustrative style, and I enjoy depicting everyday scenes or objects in this exaggerated and hyper-saturated style.
Yes, my commission rates are based on size. All commissions under 16x20 in size are painted in oil on hard, wooden panels called gessobords. (Above that size, I prefer to work in acrylic on stretched canvas.) All paintings are finished with a high-gloss artist varnish. Hardware is included and attached across the back. My turnaround times vary depending on the time of year; please reach out for a timeline.
Sometimes I teach painting courses in acrylics or water-soluble oils in Bethlehem, PA. For class availability, see: www.bananafactory.org/classes/adult-classes/
I sell a few, select prints of my work here: https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-lauren-kuhn
Yes, I am in studio 345 at the Banana Factory Arts Center, located at 25 W. Third St. Bethlehem, PA. Since I don’t keep “conventional” work hours, please email me at lauren@artbylaurenkuhn.com to arrange a time or day to visit. I encourage visitors to consider attending First Friday, an open house at the Banana Factory that occurs on the first friday of every month (except August). Attendees can enjoy live music, comedy, exhibitions, art workshops and more at First Friday. Similarly, most of the 30+ resident artists – including me – are in attendance with their studios open for tours.
