As my work moves into abstracted landscapes, setting up a personal challenge keeps me motivated and entertained. A couple years ago, I did The Acrylic Project…so fun! Tentatively titled The 42mph Project, this one will be a series of abstracted landscapes from photos taken out the window of our car early on a November morning while driving through the Vashon countryside on our way to the ferry. Let’s see where it goes (no pun intended). For the first painting I am using Flashe Paint (vinyl). Reflections on a Flashe Paint painting: I love the matte quality, perhaps because it reminds me of pastel (so far, my all-time favorite medium). Little annoyances are the rapid dry and I find it a bit unresponsive to my pokes and prods. Perhaps if I were working on a slick surface I would have a different experience. That’s an idea.
