I had such plans today! I composed a clever new painting (you'll see it some time this month) and prepped the drawing, then since there would not be enough time to paint that whole thing today, I figured I'd whip pastel on one of these little leftover underpaintings from way back.I was going to make it quick and fresh and let the underpainting shine through!Well, it started quick, and somewhat fresh, and then I kept noticing the values were too dark, and I kept seeing more colors, and before I knew it it became this thick impasto thing as I layered lighter and lighter values, and subtle pale blues, violets and greens.But, the painting itself must speak, and the end result is what matters, so I flowed with it and let it happen.
