This is a common subject of mine that has yet to run its course! Many years ago, I was on a 3 day hike through the Alaska wilderness with two friends. When I returned home I painted an image similar to this one, except instead of a river it was a trail of purple boulders leading into the landscape! (Yes,we slowly climbed over a hill side of boulders!) I stole the title from Edgar Allen Poe's poem,"To the River". It is a beautiful poem. When I read it I thought of the river in my painting.
