Boudicca Can Do It The 2025 International Women's Day theme is Accelerate Action for gender equality. Boudicca/Boudica was queen of the ancient British Iceni tribe. She was married to Prasutagus, the tribe’s ruler, who had been allowed by the Romans allowed to maintain his rule after they conquered the south of Britain in AD 43. When Prasutagus died, the Romans refused to recognize Queen Boudicca as ruler and reportedly stripped and flogged her, as well as raping her daughters. Refusing to tolerate this injustice, Boudicca led an uprising against the Roman Empire. Though they successfully defeated the Roman Ninth Legion and continued on to destroy London and Verulamium, the Roman army proved to be too strong and Boudicca was finally defeated. Boudicca is revered as a strong and iconic woman in British history. For this year’s International Women’s Day I have created a collection of four “Women In History” who inspired ways to Accelerate Action in gender equality. I have portrayed them each as a version of the legendary Rosie the Riveter, which is mirrored by the images in the 2025 IWD campaign. They are each striking a Rosie the Riveter pose and I have used the same colours as you see in the iconic poster. Finally, they each have their own version of Rosie’s red with white polka dot head scarf.
