Each day when I wake up I lie quietly with my eyes closed and think of people, animals, events, etc. that I'm grateful for. To keep this from becoming a repetitive list I make sure that at least one thing I'm thinking of is new, having never been a part of my list. I've been doing this for at least a couple of years, perhaps more. When I first started I set my alarm 15 minutes early so I'd have time. Now my body wakes itself up early on its own allowing my mind all the time it needs.
