I did this painting from a photo shoot at Laurel Lake in Millville, New Jersey, off the Davis pier. The sunset was so brilliant and the clouds so bright where the sun was hitting them off to the right that I felt this was the ideal setup for a painting.
I wanted something different than the usual straight on sunset. This was a fun challenge.
