I've painted this shell several times, but with watercolor, the outcome is always different. The ground is gessoed watercolor paper, which makes the pigment's path even more unpredictable. The secret recipe for fossilized shells: Payne's gray and cadmium orange (courtesy of Luna Lee Ray). And then I added a tiny dab of pink. Question: sometimes I put in a light splattery background (for sand) and a shadow for my seashell paintings, other times I like to leave it stark white. Which do you like?
