Zorn sunset studies. Avenue B, Melbourne Beach. I wanted to challenge myself with a more abstract impressionist seascape using an extremely limited palette, in this case, a Zorn palette. The first painting, 8x8 linen panel, uses only yellow ochre, cadmium red light, ivory black and titanium white. The ivory black acted as my blue. In the second, 6x6 linen panel, I added ultramarine blue deep. An interesting experiment in several different ways. I had to work fast because of the changing light (the super limited palette helped!) I used flats instead of my usual filberts, and I went all out abstract (abstract for me anyway!).
