Meandering around Cedar Hill Cemetery, I came across the grave of Susie Bartlett Nurney who died at age 16 in the year 1901. I did not know when I chose to paint it, that I was aquainted with Susie's namesake. I found out that Susie was the youngest of 9 children and the apple of her father's eye. She died of small pox. I painted the figure over her grave for our local plein air festival. Meandering around Cedar Hill Cemetery, I came across the grave of Susie Bartlett Nurney who died at age 16 in the year 1901.
