This very cool old police boat, designed by the famous marine architect Philip Rhodes and named for slain NYPD Patrolman Henry Walburger, was salvaged from the bottom of the Passaic River and lovingly restored. It is now used as a Coast Guard auxiliary facility, as well as for volunteer environmental and public safety work. Not knowing its story at the time, I painted it because I liked its lines. Then one evening, as we were waiting for a table before dinner, I spied it leaving its berth on the Hudson. “I painted your boat!” I yelled. They pulled up to the dock and invited us aboard for a lovely evening on the river. (Dinner was a little late.) It was a magical night. This painting is part of Art Show: Bedford 2021, up now!
