This is a view of Canyon Creek where it joins the Metolius River on the northwest side of Black Butte, an old volcano west of Sisters, Oregon. It is one of my favorite areas to paint landscape. It is one of the two sites we visit on the annual Cascade en plein air workshop that is taught each September by me and my artist friend, Bill Shumway. The other site is Clear Lake off Hwy 126.
I did a number of preliminary sketches before settling on this composition. I really love this painting. It is one of my favorites from the last few years. Enjoy!
