Media: acrylic and collage on 1.5" deep cradled mixed media board
Size: 10x10 in
I'm not sure what birds think about the changing colors but they always look amazing as their environment becomes incredibly colourful. In this piece I began with an ink wash into which I pressed leaves and saran wrap. The textures when I lifted everything were amazing. The leaf pressings are partially visible on the surface as I didn't cover them all. I then added rice paper collage. To define the leaves I applied transparent ink glazes as I didn't want to cover the texture of the collage or all of the marks from the leaf pressings. I added the bird with more opaque paint along with tree branches and twigs. This is an intuitive way of working as I have no set imagine in mind when I start. I spend more time contemplating the piece and deciding what to do next then painting as these pieces develop!
