Was she called by God to care for the ill, the dying, the poor and the marginalized? Was she impassioned and filled with love or was she fascinated with suffering? Did she spend her life building homes and places of refuge for the unwanted and the abandoned in countries around the world to better their lives? Did she use the money gifted to her for lifting the burdens of the poor or did she use her patrons to fund purposes unknown and less than honorable? When I began reading about her life and her work that earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, there were so many questions that appeared. Her life was long and I will assume there were works of greatness and then those works that were not great at all. For the above questions and more, I chose to paint her as very young woman in her teens. Was she called by God to care for the ill, the dying, the poor and the marginalized?
