so they are milling around their last stack of hay just before the spring grass comes in. they are in a cove with a steep wooded hill to their right and woods behind them. what struck me about the photo is how tall the trees are and the glittering patch of yellow leaves. the trees are on the banks of a creek which creates the area of light amongst the yellow leaves in the distance. they are in a really cozy area protected from the winter wind. I had just walked up on them and i imagine they are saying, "oh, here comes the waitress"... i actually used 2 different photos to create this one painting.
