Had a hard time with this because the past week a storm came in and it’s been raining almost nonstop, which makes it difficult to paint from life. Here are the pair of Silver Sebrights, bantam (miniature) chickens. They are about the size of a pigeon, I made them life size in this painting.
The males are hen feathered, meaning they don’t have the long pointy rooster tail feathers commonly seen on chickens. The breed is from the United Kingdom and was created more than 200 years ago, as an exhibition bird, by a man named Sir John Sebright. They lay small cream colored eggs. Their temperament is happy, energetic and a bit fiesty. Individuals have lots of personality and make great pets. A rare breed that is slowing becoming more and more hard to find, they are currently on the threatened breeds list of the livestock conservancy and the watch list of the rare breeds survival trust.
