Based on the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne, this is Daphne in the process of being transformed into a tree. In the story, Cupid shoots a love arrow into Apollo and makes him fall in love with the first woman he sees, Daphne. Then, Cupid shot a revulsion arrow into Daphne, and as Apollo was about to catch Daphne as she fled, her father turned her into a laurel tree to save her from Apollo's advances.
