I tried to capture the beauty of the experience of having a newly-emerged black swallowtail butterfly dry its wings while resting on my finger at the beginning of September 2020. My husband got some snapshots of this and I used those as a reference after all the pretty insects flew away. Rather than try to draw my hand, I made this swallowtail rest on a blade of green grass.
