Media: Pen and Ink on hotpress watercolor paper
Size: 9x12 in
An experimental drawing where I wanted to create a midtone for the sky and lake on my previous notan drawing of the public boat ramp in Crescent City, Florida. The curls/swirls for the sky are an homage to Vincent van Gogh's skies, most famously his The Starry Night. I've always admired the feeling of motion in his clouds and skies, from the first time I found a book featuring his art when I was in the third grade, and wanted to evoke that sensation. It's not perfect because I did not have a clear idea of how I would accomplish the image - and permanent black pen is not forgiving. I will redo it again very soon, with no actual straight lines in the lake and more uniform size of the sky swirls. I think I need at least one more cloud as well.
