This painting is part of series of watercolors featuring bubbles on abstracted backgrounds. In this painting, I experimented with using fluid mask to preserve the bright areas in the bubbles. Then, I used a wet on wet application technique both when painting the background and the inside of bubbles. As I continued to work on the piece, I realized that I wanted to add a figurative element on the abstracted green background. I created them first by using a bamboo pen. I liked the effect, but because I wanted to increase the contrast, I used a pen and another layer of watercolor to the bamboo-created. In the end, I've created a piece I really like - one that would look good framed in many settings. I hope you agree with me.
