'My Dream Chair' is a figurative self-portrait in my favorite chair, the site of many afternoon cat naps. I wanted to depict that fuzzy space between wake and sleep, where you are still conscious of what is going on around you, but feel as if you may float away at any moment. This sensation is created through the contrast between bold, energizing colors and graphic shapes on the lower half of the painting and the less saturated, indistinct top portion while the figure seemingly floats in between. On view at The Miller Musuem of Art, Sturgeon Bay, WI until Nov. 9 2024 Winner of Special Merit award at the 49th Annual Juried Exhibition of Wisconsin Artists, at The Miller Museum of Art. This piece is framed with a simple black floater frame. 'My Dream Chair' is a figurative self-portrait in my favorite chair, the site of many afternoon cat naps.
