This was great fun to paint due to the dappled light, colourful shadows and of course the pinks, corals, violets and scarlets of the blooms. I also really like the composition created by the decking and my shed wall / door. The image seems to drop out of the frame on several sides which accentuates the explosive bloom of the hydrangeas. I include a stop motion video on Instagram (@marcuswalderpaintings) showing how this was painted although it just seems to reveal that I don't really have a method at all!
